“Usually compelling [with] an air of streetwise neorealism... edgy, documentary-style immediacy.  Rivera is a standout in a drama enhanced by apt use of hand-held camerawork and naturalistic lighting.”

                                          --Variety

Innovative... a gripping immersion course on urban youth.”

                                         --O, The Oprah Magazine

“The honesty of [the characters’] voices and touching poetry of their language draw you in with their authenticity, heart, and youthful determination.”

                                        --Austin Chronicle

“Innovative in how the story is told... [with] honest and unforced performances, the film has a level of intimacy and realism... artful... charmingly unaffected and funny.”

                                         --Cinematical

“Novel... refreshingly raw and highly intimate [as] the winding score guides the story toward a strained and quietly tragic conclusion.”

                                         --The Isthmus, Wisconsin

A collaborative film between a group of non-professional kids from East Harlem, and the filmmakers, Up With Me was filmed as an improvisation.  The story follows a teenager from East Harlem who is accepted to prep school upstate, and must deal with the collision of cultures between his new home and his old one.
